The Cold War was a period of political and military tension between the Western Bloc, led by the United States and NATO, and the Eastern Bloc, led by the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact. During this time, the threat of nuclear war was at its height, and governments around the world took measures to protect their citizens in case of a nuclear attack. In the UK, one such measure was the construction of bunkers.
